Ending Hunger starts with people. With your support to the Hunger Project, communities realise their own vision of a future free from hunger and poverty. “To empower Women is one of the central pillars of our work. Women bear almost all responsibility for meeting the basic needs of the family, yet are systematically denied the resources, information and freedom of action they need to fulfil this responsibility. Studies show that when women are supported and empowered, all of society benefits. Their families are healthier, more children go to school, agricultural productivity improves, and incomes increase. In short, communities become more resilient. We firmly believe that empowered women are the key change agents and are the essential element to achieving the end of hunger and poverty.” In Bangladesh Meghla Haldar was able to prevent her child marriage with the help of The Hunger Project. Learn more about her story: "I live in Bakal in Barisal district, Bangladesh. At a certain point in my life, I faced a very difficult situation. When I was in eighth grade, my family arranged my marriage, but I did not agree to this marriage. I knew the consequences of child marriage from the her-choice program at our school organised by the Hunger Project. For example, the risks of child marriage include early pregnancy, malnutrition of the babies, and even death. I asked for help from my teacher, who persuaded my parents to stop the marriage. I don't want to get married because I want to become a nurse first and help others in society. I want to show my parents that a girl can stand on her own two feet." Last year, the JustPlay App's players donated over 82,000 times to the Hunger Project.
